This is the perfect experience for the ocean lover, foodie and island wanderer!
Welcome to Cartagena! ‘The Jewel of the Indies’ is the most beautiful city of the Colombian Caribbean, and one of the most historically important in all of South America, and on this special ‘Discover Cartagena’ Tour you will discover the best of the magical city.
Our tour will begin with a morning walking tour of the Old Walled City, during which you will learn the history and fascinating secrets of Cartagena. Learn more about the wonderfully-preserved colonial architecture, the forgotten stories of pirates and privateers, and the modern history of the city, before heading to La Mulata for a hearty seafood lunch.
After eating we will visit a traditional artisan shop, where you will have the chance to browse – or even buy! – certified handmade crafts from throughout Colombia at excellent prices. Once you’ve had your fill of shopping, there is a very special treat: a private Colombian cooking course. A professional chef will take you through a host of local recipes, which you will then learn to prepare. The best part: you get to eat your creations for dinner when it’s all done! It’s the perfect way to have some fun and discover the joys of Colombian food and hospitality all at once.
What’s a visit to the Caribbean without a day at the beach? This morning, a 30 minute boat trip will take you to Tierra Bomba Island, where you will spend the day at Blue Apple Beach House, an exclusive private beach club, with an excellent restaurant serving fresh, local seafood dishes. Lounge by the pool in a hammock, sample some cocktails at the bar, enjoy a rejuvenating beachside massage, or take a dip in the blue Caribbean waters: the choice is yours. After the return boat trip in the late afternoon, your evening is free to enjoy some more time in Cartagena. Our recommendation: enjoy the sunset with a cocktail on the Old City Walls before grabbing a traditional local dinner at La Cevicheria, Anthony Bourdain’s top restaurant pick in Cartagena.
There’s more to Cartagena than just beaches and beautiful buildings, and today’s morning excursion to the mangrove forests of La Boquilla will prove that. After a 45 minute drive to the small fishing community of La Boquilla, you will take a unique tour through the mangroves. A local fisherman will be your guide, paddling a traditional canoe through the amazing tunnels formed by the mangroves and explaining all about the ecosystems, and the fisherman’s life in La Boquilla. Keep an eye out for spoonbills, herons, and even crab-eating racoons! We will enjoy a traditional lunch alongside the lagoon before returning to Cartagena.
